OEM vs Non-OEM

I would like to discuss with you my journey in buying a cheap car part that is not OEM (Original Equipment Manufacter). OEM is basically that the part is an authentic part that was made in the same manufacturing plant as the original part. I myself bought something that was made in China and is currently falling apart on my vehicle. This was the passenger side mirror. My old one broke off from hitting a "No Parking Sign" while swerving from a deer. After I received it I knew it didn't look the same, but I was happy since I got it half of OEM price. But, I paid for it because indeed the new mirror looked cheap and would soon fall apart. First of all the Non-OEM mirror is already rusting apart from my original mirror. I would like to further add that when I'm doing 80 MPH on the highway the mirror shakes and looks like it's going to fly off. Last but not least the controls to control the Non-OEM mirror are backwards so "Up is down vice versa and Left is Right". But, the mirror does server is purpose. It's almost like a temporary fix.All in all if you would like something cheap, but also looks cheap you could go with something "Non-OEM."

Moral of the story is if you would like something flimsy and at a cheap price then disregard the OEM labels, but if you want something sturdy and last make sure when your shopping whether it be ebay or yahoo shopping, to be sure it says OEM.
